Tal-Mixta Cave

The cave is accessible via a narrow staircase that leads down into the underground chamber. Once inside, visitors are treated to a breathtaking display of geological formations, including columns, curtains, and helictites. The cave’s walls and ceiling are adorned with delicate calcite crystals, which sparkle and shimmer in the dim light.

Tal Mixta Cave is believed to have been formed during the last Ice Age, when sea levels were much lower than they are today. As the sea receded, rainwater percolated through the limestone rock and dissolved it, creating the cave’s intricate network of chambers and passages.

Salt Pans

The Salt Pans in Gozo, Malta are a fascinating sight that showcases a traditional method of salt harvesting that has been practiced for centuries. These shallow, rectangular pools are carved into the rocky coastline and filled with seawater, which is then left to evaporate in the hot Mediterranean sun.

As the water evaporates, a layer of salt is left behind, which is then harvested by hand using traditional tools. The salt pans are carefully tended to by local families, who have passed down this ancient tradition from generation to generation.

At the end of the valley is a small pebble beach, which can only be accessed via a steep staircase. The beach is surrounded by towering cliffs, creating a secluded and peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun.

Wied il-Ghasri left me in awe with its stunning natural beauty. The towering cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and diverse marine life created a feeling of seclusion and freedom that I had never experienced before. It is truly a magical place that left a lasting emotional impression on me.

Best location for pictures is from the stairs above the beach.
