Tenerife — 7 days itinerary

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, boasts a pleasant year-round climate, making it an ideal destination for beach vacations and leisurely strolls along its picturesque coastlines. With its sandy beaches, family-friendly attractions, and vibrant nightlife, Tenerife offers something for every traveler to enjoy.

We decided to split our vacation on Tenerife, spending 2 nights in the North of the island and the rest of the time in the South near the resort of Las Americas.

Well, are you ready to continue following our route? Let’s go ahead!

First Steps after flight

The first thing you’ll do upon arrival at the airport is rent a car. It’s the most convenient way to explore the island to the fullest. I recommend using the website https://localrent.com/ for car rental — they offer excellent conditions. I advise booking in advance, as soon as you buy your plane tickets — reserve your car.

The first stop (you must be really hungry after a long flight!) — you’ll want to enjoy a delicious meal. Just a few minutes from the airport, there’s a fantastic seafood restaurant. It’s amazing, stunning, and incredibly tasty! With ocean views, the restaurant is authentically charming, ensuring your first impressions of the island are delightful. The seafood platter in the photo is simply marvelous!

And this place is Restaurante Los Abrigos.

After a delightful lunch, I recommend taking a stroll along the small promenade to enjoy the Spanish weather and sunshine.

Accommodation in the north of the island

We chose a wonderful estate on a banana plantation and farm — Finca el Patio.

Finca El Patio, located in the La Orotava Valley on Tenerife Island, is a 22,205 square meter rural complex that emphasizes sustainable tourism through its organic farm and Slow Food restaurant.

The property, which includes the historic 19th-century Rural House El Patio de Tita and the EcoClub, offers a variety of agritourism activities and promotes the consumption of local and organic products.

Look at the wonderful Instagram-worthy breakfasts they prepared for us! There’s also a swimming pool on the property, as well as a plantation where you can take a walk (if you’re not afraid of spider webs, haha). And here are some photos from there:

Accommodation in the south of the island

Wyndham Residences Golf del Sur, located in the south of the island, offers luxurious accommodations with stunning ocean views and top-notch amenities. Guests can enjoy a range of activities, including golfing, swimming, and relaxing walks through beautiful gardens and nearby plantations.

We were given a very nice room with a view of Mount Teide, the pool, beautiful flowers, and an incredible sight of planes landing from the window. The hotel also has a good restaurant and occasionally features live music.

  • Las Américas — beach, promenade

  • Charco La Vaca cliffs
  • Mount Teide and the cable car
  • Playa de Castro
  • Puerto de la Cruz promenade and Andana Beach Club
  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Las Américas

Las Américas boasts a vibrant promenade lined with lively shops, cafes, and bars, perfect for a leisurely stroll any time of day.

Tenerife’s restaurants offer a delightful culinary journey, with fresh seafood, traditional Spanish tapas, and international cuisine to satisfy every palate.

Take some time for a relaxing stroll, or perhaps you’ll want to take a dip in the water!

Our experience was as follows: we took a long walk across the entire expansive promenade, enjoyed seafood at a restaurant (choose any, they are all good!), had some ice cream, and watched a stunning pink sunset with uniquely shaped clouds hanging over the mountains. An incredible sight!

Amarillo Beach

Amarillo Beach on Tenerife is a hidden gem known for its golden sands and crystal-clear waters, perfect for sunbathing and snorkeling. The tranquil atmosphere and beautiful surroundings make it an ideal spot for a relaxing beach day away from the crowds.

Even in February, the weather was fantastic, warm, and sunny at Amarillo Beach. There’s no wind on the beach, but be sure to bring beach and swim shoes as walking on the rocks can be uncomfortable and painful.

The beach features a bar, parking, and locals who, for understandable reasons, absolutely adore this beach.

Charco La Vaca

Charco La Vaca in Tenerife is a picturesque spot known for its stunning rock formations and clear, turquoise waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling adventures. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful retreat surrounded by natural beauty and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.

What a beautiful place! We launched our drone there and captured a stunning shot. You can check out the video on my IVLIANNA Instagram

There are plenty of other beautiful spots to explore nearby these cliffs, so feel free to stop by any on your way.

Teide volcano

Teide Volcano in Tenerife offers stunning landscapes with its lunar-like terrain and surreal rock formations, providing visitors with an unforgettable experience of otherworldly beauty.

The cable car ride to its summit provides a thrilling ascent through diverse ecosystems, culminating in panoramic views stretching across the Canary Islands and beyond.

How to visit the volcano

Make sure to book your tickets in advance! If you just show up, chances are you won’t get a cable car ride on the same day as tickets sell out early. When you arrive, park your car in the large parking lot. Be there 20 minutes before your scheduled time near the cable car building. Don’t be late— this is your arrival time at the volcano!

We lucked out with warm weather that day, BUT don’t take chances — better wear closed clothing and bring a jacket. Some people even had hats and gloves on. We absolutely loved it, totally worth it! The views from the top are stunning, and there’s a café near the cable car. The food there isn’t the best, but if you’re really hungry, you can grab a bite. The views are amazing…

BUT! Still, the landscapes of Lanzarote left a bigger impression on us than Tenerife’s most famous attraction.

Playa de Castro

Playa de Castro in Tenerife is a tranquil beach nestled in a picturesque cove, offering golden sands and calm, turquoise waters ideal for swimming and sunbathing.

Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush vegetation, it provides a secluded escape where visitors can unwind and soak up the beauty of nature.

The journey to Playa de Castro involves a fairly long road. You’ll need to park your car atop the mountain, then take about a 20-minute walk down to the beach.

The beach itself can be cool and damp due to its location at the base of the cliffs. In the evening, the sun sets behind the mountain, so sunbathing isn’t really an option, but the breathtaking views compensate for it all! Plus, the absence of direct sunlight provides the perfect lighting for photography.

Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife is a charming coastal town known for its vibrant promenade lined with colorful houses, creating a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls.

Adana Beach Club stands out as a culinary gem, offering delicious food, stunning views, and excellent service, making it a must-visit spot for travelers seeking both gastronomic delights and scenic relaxation.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the vibrant capital city of Tenerife, known for its stunning architecture and lively atmosphere.

Located on the northeast coast of the island, it offers a perfect blend of culture, history, and natural beauty.

If you’re seeking unique experiences, Santa Cruz de Tenerife might not be the ideal destination for you. It lacks distinctiveness, so I wouldn’t recommend spending time there :)

As our adventure on the breathtaking island of Tenerife comes to a close, our hearts are filled with memories that will last a lifetime. But fear not! The magic doesn’t end here.

Brace yourselves for the next chapter in our journey as we set sail for the enchanting shores of Lanzarote

Get ready to be swept away by its raw beauty, fiery spirit, and boundless wonders. The adventure continues, and we invite you to join us on this exhilarating ride through paradise!
